{"id":147,"date":"2016-03-21T19:23:31","date_gmt":"2016-03-21T19:23:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/santacruzdrumlessons.com\/?p=147"},"modified":"2017-07-24T18:40:31","modified_gmt":"2017-07-24T18:40:31","slug":"the-four-ps-of-practice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/santacruzdrumlessons.com\/?p=147","title":{"rendered":"The Four  P&#8217;s Of Practice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Practice is both a verb, to practice a skill (a musical instrument, for example), and a noun, a life-practice (such as Yoga, Meditation, Music, etc.) that reinforces positive Life Rhythms&#8230; beneficial patterns of Attitude and Action. \u00a0We reinforce both through repetition. \u00a0Of course, we want to make sure that we&#8217;re repeating the things we\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">want<\/span> to get good at! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Here are four fundamental elements to build into our life-practices, and into our practicing, to make sure we are reinforcing our positive Life Rhythms&#8230; as individuals, and as groups:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">1) Purpose: \u00a0Have a clear vision of what you want to do. \u00a0What are your short-, mid-, and long-term goals?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">2) Plan: \u00a0Create a routine of specific actions. \u00a0Set regular days and times to engage in the activity, and know what you will do during each session. \u00a0Your practice will become a regular part of your life, and something to look forward to!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">3) Persevere: \u00a0Keep to your Purpose and to your Plan. \u00a0Every time we break a routine, it becomes easier to break it again, and to feel that we are unreliable&#8230; which makes it easier to break it again. \u00a0Every time we stay with a productive routine, we reinforce a sense that we are dependable; this makes us want to live up to our dependable nature and engage in the activity again and again!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">4) Play: \u00a0Have fun&#8230; We call it &#8220;playing music&#8221; for a reason! \u00a0Make any and all Practice time into Play time. \u00a0As children, we learn by playing. \u00a0As adults, we often forget to play because we now have responsibilities, and can feel that playing is wasting time. \u00a0Keep playing to keep learning! When we are reinforcing skills, or learning knew ones, we know that we are &#8220;practicing&#8221;, but when we approach each session with an attitude of, &#8220;I&#8217;m going to\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">play<\/span> now&#8221;, we create a feeling of eager anticipation.
